Are your pet's microchip details up to date?

A microchip is the most effective way of reuniting you with your beloved pet should they go missing. Unlike tags on the collar, a microchip is a permanent electronic form of identification that your pet cannot lose. Each microchip is about the size of a grain of rice and is implanted under the skin (usually between the shoulder blades). Every chip has a unique number which can be read with a scanner. The microchip number should be registered at the time of implantation on one of several database registries, such as Pet Safe (petsafe.com.au), Central Animal Records (car.com.au) or Global Micro Animal Registry (globalmicro.com.au). Vet clinics, animal shelters and local councils can scan your pet should they be found and search on a database to find your contact information.

If you would like to have your pet scanned to check that your details are up to date, please bring your pet into our clinic and one of our friendly staff would be more than happy to assist. We can also help register the microchip should your pet already have one implanted but not currently registered on a database. This is a free service and no appointment is required. Alternatively, if your pet isn't microchipped this can be done at a cost of $30.
